Skating Lessons
The Chavez Center is the place to be to learn to skate, play hockey, or sharpen your skills on the ice.
- Class sessions are 8 weeks
- Classes are held on Tuesday Evening and Saturday Morning/Afternoon
- Classes are 30 minute group instruction which include skate rental and admission to Public Skate the day of the class
- Classes are $96.00 for 8 weeks
- Class registration never ends and skaters may enroll anytime
Next 8 week session begins the week of May 19, 2008

Private Lessons
We have a wide variety of qualified Staff Instructors who are available for private lessons for skaters at all skill levels. For more information contact the Ice Skate Office at 955-4031
Hockey
Adult Hockey Drop-In & Game Clinic

Open to all players who are 18 years and older. NO CHECK! Full hockey equipment required.

Stick & Puck
Membership or Daily Admission PLUS $4.00
This session is open to all hockey players and is designed for all skaters of varying skill levels to practice their stick handling and shooting skills. Full equipment is required. No slap shots, group instruction or scrimmages will be allowed. Please check our WEBSITE and Ice Arena Schedule for weekly dates and times.

15 Games plus Playoff
We have Adult Leagues for all skill levels. These are NO CHECK leagues and full equipment is required. We have referees, scorekeeping, stats and follow USA Hockey rules. All games are 1.25 hrs. We have an instructional clinic for new players.
A League - Thursday 7:15 pm & 8:45 pm
C League - Tuesdays 7:15 pm & 8:45 pm
Youth Hockey
We have Intro to Hockey for new and first time skaters. These sessions take place during our regular Learn to Skate program. We concentrate on basic skating skills and move into beginning stick handling and puck control. Skaters then graduate into our Mite/Squirt In-House hockey program where they participate in formalized practices and scrimmage games.

Mite / Squirt In-House Hockey
Membership or Daily Admission PLUS $4.00
These are formalized practices and games with the intent of providing newer hockey players with enough skill and knowledge to move into travel hockey. We emphasize traditional hockey values within a fun, lightly competitive environment. Full hockey gear is required. The Ice Arena has a limited amount of gear to provide for newer skaters.

Learn to Skate Classes
All classes are 30 minutes of group instruction with an Ice Arena staff instructor. All classes include admission into the Community Center, skate rental and admission to Public Skate. Please check our WEBSITE and the Ice Arena Schedule for specific times and dates for classes offered.
Classes are Tuesday afternoon, Saturday morning/afternoon & Thursday morning
Parent & Tots
This is a wonderful opportunity for Parents to join in the fun of sharing the first time experience of skating with their children. We will learn the proper way to fall down and get up, marching in place, marching while moving forward and the two foot glide.
Snowplow Sam
This session is designed for younger, first time skaters who want to get out on the ice and learn the basics of skating. We will learn the proper way to fall down and get up, marching forward, beginning swizzles and the beginner snowplow stop.
Basic 1
Now we can start to build solid skating skills. This class teaches one & two foot glides, the dip, backward wiggles, forward swizzles, a rocking horse and snow plow stops.
Basic 2
This session builds on what we have learned in previous classes. The concentration is on controlled right & left one foot glides, solid forward and backward swizzles, scooter pushes and a steady snow plow stop.
Basic 3
This session is for skaters that have moved beyond beginners and are wanting to take on the more challenging elements of skating. We will be learning forward stroking, forward crossovers (left & right), backward half swizzles (on a circle), knowledge of inside and outside edges and one foot snow plow stops.
Basic 4
Now we pull it all together and move into backward stroking with backward crossovers (left & right), two foot three turns, side two hops and T-stops on both feet.
These next classes are for skaters who wish to advance their skills and begin the process of training for competition
Spin Class
This class is for beginners and skaters wanting to advance their skills in all areas of spin techniques, hand position, posture and exit mechanics. We will be working on sit spins, backward spirals, scratch spins, change foot spins and other more advanced spins.
Jump Class
This class is for beginners and more advanced jumpers. We will work on foot position, entry to jump, lift, rotation, landing and exit positions. We will work on salchow, toe loops, loops, flips and advanced jumps.
Interpretive Class
This class is a wonderful introduction to competition and deals with the element of creating a skating program, choreography, music selections and skating to a “beat count”.
Moves in the Field
A serious class for serious skaters who want to pull it all together and improve on the skills necessary to be successful in competition.
