Hockey Skills: Mite & Squirt

The GCCC is now offering Mite/Squirt practices and games. This is a great opportunity for you to get ready for the upcoming Fall Season. Come join our coaching staff every Wednesday 6:00pm to 7:15pm OR Saturdays from 8:45am to 10:00am.The fee is only $4.00 per session. The Ice Arena has hockey gear to loan.

Speed Skating

New in 2009 is our Speed Skating Program. The GCCC Ice Arena is the only rink in New Mexico that offers a dedicated time slot for our program. “THE NEED FOR SPEED…” Are you a thrill seeker? Do you enjoy learning new skills and making new friends? Do you like to skate FAST? Then Speed Skating is for you!

GCCC Speed Skating Coach Joel Salisbury welcomes Olympic hopeful Boston Shields to the GCCC Ice Arena. Joel and Boston along with several other Speed Skaters were on hand to officially launch the Santa Fe Speed Skating Club on March 30, 2009.

Ice Arena

One truly amazing aspect of the Chavez Center is how it magically transforms our desert climate into a year-round polar region. At the only ice rink in Santa Fe, you can maneuver like a hockey player, figure skate like an Olympian or just free skate with your friends.

Skate Information
For your safety and enjoyment, there is a 150 skater capacity on the ice per session on a first-come, first served basis. Weekly schedules are available at the skate shop. For more information call 955-4033. All programs or events are subject to change.

Groups & Field Trips
We have a wide variety of times available to accommodate any group. Individual and group skating instruction is available for an additional charge. Skating instruction greatly increases the enjoyment for first time skaters and allows the Chaperones to have some fun too! To make a reservation, please call 955-4024.


Freestyle
Freestyle sessions are open to all qualified figure skaters. These sessions are designed for serious and competitive figure skaters taking private lessons or working on individual skills. The Ice Arena will determine the appropriate limit of skaters participating in any one session. The “Tape Line” will be enforced and repetitive program music will not be allowed. The lead skater(s) with the “Sash” will be given “right of way”. Any skater engaging in reckless or dangerous skating will be ordered off the ice. No standing or congregating with other skaters, on the ice, during these sessions. Appropriate attire required. No Jeans!


Pro Shop
We have a full service skate shop which includes sharpening, blade mounting and boot stretching. Check with one of our qualified staff members for all the services available for your equipment needs. Call 955-4033.

Skate Rental $3.00

Don’t own your own skates? The Chavez Center Skate Shop has 400 pairs of skates for you to rent. $3.00 per pair, per session. Figure, hockey, and recreational skates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skate Sharpening & Repair

Need your skates sharpened? Our skilled staff can do that for you! Same day sharpening $10, overnight $7.50. See rink staff for skate repair and pricing. Payment must be made prior to all work being performed.
